Engineering Executive Manager (Nov 2022) · Head of Software Engineering (Nov 2020)

Developed and implemented the end-to-end strategy for the Business Satellite Service (BSS), managing internal and external engineering teams across RF engineering, IT, IP networks, security and software, with a $20M+ annual budget, multi-vendor delivery, product direction and cyber risk, with telemetry environments processing millions of data points per minute.

Launched satellite connectivity products including services up to 150Mbps, plus R&D for Sat on the Pause and Sat on the Move mobility capability.

Sustained 99.998% availability through resilience engineering and operational discipline.

Integrated Azure and AWS with on-premise environments and removed $500K+ in annual OPEX via application modernisation.

Insourced the platform from the managed-services provider and rebuilt the SDLC: defect resolution 300+ days to under 30, releases from 2 to 14+ per year.

Implemented a security framework and governance controls protecting PII and sensitive data.

Led engineering and operations for large-scale business-grade satellite services across network, RF, hosting, security and software delivery.

Engineering lead in the commercial negotiation team that secured the $180M+ nbn Business Satellite Services contract.

Designed and delivered a carrier-grade Juniper core network across 12 teleports and data processing centres with integrated firewall and DDoS controls.

Established RF capability across 9+1 gateways and two data processing centres, managing ~100 satellite beams within 12 months.

Transitioned a failing development engagement to a new partner in 3 months, then delivered a .NET microservices platform (100+ services) on Kubernetes.

Resolved ~500 critical defects and shipped major new functionality within 6 months.

Ran shared-services operations and technology for the $150M+ Ericsson NWAS/NSAS program supporting 250K+ fixed wireless and satellite services, then led IT transformation as CIO.

Launched NSAS delivery in under 3 months and ramped to 5,000 jobs per month in the same period.

Scaled the business from 50 to 300+ staff in 12 months while cutting the overhead ratio from ~11% to ~4%.

Lifted IT service SLAs from ~84% to 100% within a month through process redesign and vendor performance management.

Shifted the technology costing model from CAPEX to OPEX, improving cost predictability.

Led a $20M multi-functional operation covering commercial performance, logistics, HR, compliance, network operations and customer service, after directing delivery of the Interim Release Satellite Service (ISS) program for NBN Australia, infrastructure for 52,000 services.

Negotiated major enterprise agreements including $10M+ Telstra satellite contracts.

Delivered 48,000 installations across the program, including 22,000+ in just over a year, 60% above expectation, at up to 3,000 per month.

Delivered the Telstra network and operational applications for 1,000+ end customers in under 6 months, within budget.

Improved employee satisfaction and performance by 20%+ through organisational redesign and clearer decision rights.

Completed the initial satellite hub program of 11 hubs and 70+ collocate installations two months ahead of schedule.
